Rhinoplasty
The nose is the most prominent facial feature and the feature that many men and women would like to change. If you are unhappy with your nose, you can transform it with nasal surgery called Rhinoplasty. If breathing through your nose is a problem, Rhinoplasty can be combined with Septoplasty to straighten and open the inside of the nose to effectively restore the ability to breathe freely. Whether you wish to affect a change to your profile or breathe more easily, nasal surgery through cutting edge techniques can provide dramatic results.
What features of the nose can be changed?
Typically, patients are interested in changing the profile, the width, the tip, or the nostrils’ shape. All of these facets can be addressed with Rhinoplasty. Dr. Perry’s goal for you is to create a natural-looking nose that is well suited to your face and more aesthetically pleasing.
How is the Rhinoplasty procedure performed?
Most commonly the surgery is performed through tiny incisions made just inside the nostrils. At other times it may be necessary to make another incision across the strip of skin between the nostrils. Regardless of the method, the incisions will be virtually invisible after healing. Operating via these incisions, Dr. Perry can reshape and redefine your nose by sculpting the bones and cartilage–perhaps reducing some areas while building up others with your own cartilage, bone, or other approved material. A personal consultation will help determine which techniques might be best for you, depending on your natural structure and desired result.
What will I look like and feel like afterward?
Because every individual patient varies in degree of bruising and healing, there is no exact answer. However, we can offer a general outline of expectations:
For the first few days there will be some swelling and bruising around the eye area. You may have a congested feeling and experience mild bleeding. All activity should be limited; resting with the head elevated is important to minimize swelling. Dr. Perry will prescribe medication to control any discomfort.
Within the first week, you may resume light activity. Nasal cast and splints may be removed, and you may use cosmetics to cover any discoloration.
Dr. Perry does not routinely use nasal packing.
Within 7 days, stitches will be removed or will dissolve. After 1 to 2 weeks you may resume nearly all of your normal activities and light exercise. You will experience a significant reduction of swelling and the final results will begin to take shape over the next few months.
Rhinoplasty is considered an outpatient procedure. You will most likely return to the comfort of your own home the same day. The procedure may be done in a hospital or outpatient surgery center. Most commonly general anesthesia is used; however in some case local anesthesia with intravenous sedation may be used. Either method will ensure your ultimate comfort during the process. We will constantly monitor your physical condition both during the procedure and in the recovery room.
What kind of follow-up care will I need?
You will return to our office for a postoperative visit within the first 3 to 7 days and then periodically thereafter to monitor your progress over the next month or so.
What types of risks are involved?
Nasal surgery or Rhinoplasty is a safe procedure that is performed on thousands of men and women each year with no major complications. As with any surgical procedure, there are some risks. We will review these with you in your personal consultation.
